A Sandton Nursery School for a Foreign Service Child

FasTracKids is an accredited and internationally recognised Sandton nursery school and we can lead you through the South African school application system. When you work in the foreign service, your life undergoes many changes. Each assignment could uproot your family as you move to a new country or city. If you have a child, this means that you will have to enrol them in a new school with every move. Since every country has differing rules regarding school enrolment processes, this can become a complicated process.

Sandton Nursery School – How to Apply for a Foreign Service Child

In South Africa, education is not compulsory for children under the age of 7. However, many parents still choose to send their children to a nursery school and preschool to prepare them for their later schooling careers. These schools are made up of pre-Grade R (for children aged 0 to 4) and Grade R (for children aged 5 to 6). Consider our different programmes if you are in search of a Sandton nursery school, as we cater for little ones from six months old to Grade 7 learners.

What You Need to Know About Applying for School in SA

  • Nursery Schools. In South Africa, the nursery and preschools are either governmentally or privately run. As a parent, you can choose the type of school you wish to enrol your child in. Just be sure that the school you choose is registered and accredited with the relevant governing bodies. We would also suggest that you do your research about your preferred Sandton nursery school before applying, whether that be online, at an open day.
  • How to Apply. First things first, have all your documentation in order. You will need your child’s birth certificate and residence permit, a study permit (if your child is not a citizen), an immunisation card, and a school report and transfer card (if your child has attended any other schools previously). You will then have to fill out an application form.

Little Star NurseryMost expats find the process simple and rarely run into problems, but it is important to remember that any school maintains the right to deny admission. In the unlikely event that this happens, and you feel the refusal was unfounded you may contact the Department of Basic Education to request a formal enquiry. Also bear in mind that the school year in SA begins in January. As such, you should enrol your child between 1 August and 31 October of the previous year.

  • The first fee you are likely to come across would be the application fee. Then, you will have to pay a deposit, the amount of which would depend on the school you choose. The school fees themselves also vary depending on the school and area. Most schools will have their fee lists available for you to peruse.
